AMX ELC 901

The ELC AMX 901 was the first prototype of a tank being designed under the Engin Léger de Combat (light combat vehicle) program. Tests done in 1955 revealed many design flaws. An improved version of the tank—the AMX ELC 90 bis—was thoroughly reworked and given all necessary alterations. It differed greatly from the prototype and was essentially a brand-new vehicle.
